Eight years ago, Drew decided to get out of the Army so that we could have a stable life for our family. Little did we know that our life would be anything BUT stable as civilians. Since his discharge in 2001, we have lived in Delaware (1 apartment, 1 house), Missouri (1 apartment), and North Carolina (1 apartment, 1 house) and Drew has worked for MBNA, Nexstar, Bank of America, Wachovia, and now Wells Fargo. The funny part is that none of these moves in career or housing have been our choice. We have been living our lives jumping from job to job and home to home based on the whims of the financial world. And we are done. This is not the life we are going to choose to live any longer.
Sometimes in life you have to get off the train you are on when you decide that you no longer want to go where it is taking you. And you just need to get on another train. Our family is about to get on a new train.
After studying all winter for the LSAT (and scoring tremendously on it), Drew was admitted this spring to USC Law School, Charlotte School of Law and Wake Forest Law School. He was awarded large scholarships to all three. So now a decision must be made. Can we afford for him to go back to school full time and which school is the right one to choose? The acceptance deadline is tomorrow.
It's scary leaving behind the life we have been living for so many years. But is has been a life of uncertainty at every turn, with many sleepless nights worrying about our future and if there will still be a paycheck to put food on the table in the morning. We have been lucky, but our luck could run out at any time. Now we are going to make our own luck.
So one way or another, Drew will be heading "back to school" in the fall, either full time or part time, as a law student. And in a few years, he will sit for the bar, and will pass with flying colors, and as a lawyer will be able to take care of our family on our terms. This period in our life will not be without hardship, both financial and emotional, but we have decided that it's the price we are willing to pay for job security and freedom to choose.
Anyway, now that I am going to have a college kid living in the house, be sure to join us for some all night keggers and beer pong! We'll leave the light on.

This is fantastic..I think change and risk taking is the best way to go! Jason comes from a line of family members who have all gone through law school...his Brother is currently going to Michigan Law.
From knowing these family members..I know what it takes to support someone going through this type of journey. You are the perfect support for him to start this new life. All my best for this new start! melissa C

You know the last time Drew and I carpooled he mentioned Law School to me.. WOW. He will make a great lawyer. He is such a calm,smart guy, with great positive perspective. Good for you guys.. TAKE THE POWER BACK... Like you wrote, this will be really cool and allow you guys to always be at choice and that is good. It is so funny to me that although the banking industry has completely fallen apart leaving it's employees shell shocked.. as we begin to step out of the ashes we are rebuilding.. slowly.. on our own terms.. better and stronger. YEAH for ya'll! OH and Chris is finishing his MBA so talk to me about being a school WIDOW... ALCOHOL HELPS... LATE NIGHT Solitary ALCOHOL while the kids sleep and the husband types a 300,000 word paper is good very good!
